I am in the process of reconfiguring my regs.

Upon purchase of my new pony bottle, I will be removing some of the hoses and closing the ports with port plugs.

The hoses that I remove (the octo, for example) will no longer be included on either reg set.

My question is how to properly store the unused octo and SPG. Is there a way to keep them safe and sound in case I wish to use them in the future? Should I cover the ends?

Well you can store them in any dry, safe place losly coiled or just laying straight out. But also it sounds like you going to not have a way to read your remaining air at all am i right? Just curious

On my main tank's reg, yes. The SPG and octo will still be attached.

On the pony's reg, no. It will only have one hose. (the 2nd stage)

So how are you going to know how much air is in your pony bottle?

I'm not very concerned with the amount of air in the pony as I don't plan to use it.

It's only a redundant air source while solo diving. If I use it, I'll be heading to the surface.

Of course, I'll occasionally check the air by attaching an air gauge....but not while diving.

Many people who solo dive with a pony bottle use it without a SPG.

Just curious. I also use a pony, but I don't solo dive. I sling it on deeper dives. I have it rigged with a small brass-and-glass SPG.

I store spare regulators with or without hoses in large zip-lock bags to protect them. Then it in a drawer in a closet away from electrical outlets.
