Hi Everyone,

My fiancé has booked our honeymoon for Cabo San Lucas the week of May 8, 2005. We plan to do some diving and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a quality dive shop. I can't remember the name of the place where we will be staying but it is through his time-share.

Of course, we are new to diving and will only have a few dives logged after our cruise to the Western Carribean in February 2005.

I'm really excited and have looked at some of the things offered at Cabo San Lucas. Besides being totally wrapped up in each other, we definitely intend to enjoy the ocean and some diving.

In my recent visit to Cabo San Lucas, I enjoyed diving with Land's End Divers. Their email address is leddiver@hotmail.com, and their phone number is (624) 143-22-00. They are located on the marina (heart of Cabo San Lucas) in the extended lobby of the Hotel Plaza Las Glorias, behind the waterfront Solomon's Landing restaurant and bar. Like other dive ops, they are quite bilingual. Also as with the other area dive ops, they operate pangas (six-pax, wooden, outboard boats).

Since your honeymoon (Congratulations!) will be in the shoulder season, neither high nor low season, you may end up diving with a very small group, or even by yourselves with the divemaster.

You will probably learn that the Scubaboard opinions weigh in favor of Amigos del Mar Divers. However, not only were they were unresponsive to my two email queries, their office was closed every time I walked by it on the way to the boat in early September. I have nothing against them, but obviously nothing for them, either.

As you will also learn in searching this forum's Cabo information, there are aggressive time-share salespeople who start their pitch by offering discount dive trips. Don't be deceived into thinking that the hucksters work for dive shops. On the other hand, if you're willing to be hustled in a sales pitch for 90 minutes, the discounts really do apply with the local shops.

Last but not least, a snorkeling trip to Lover's Beach is fun. Plan to pay no more than USD10 for the round trip, arranging for the pick-up time after a couple of hours. Since you'll be honeymooning, be aware that Lover's Beach is quite public, not as secluded as the name implies :ezpi_hear ...However, it's a great opportunity to dip into both the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez, about 50 meters apart.

Again, congratulations! May you enjoy a lifelong relationship with each other, and with diving.

I would recommend Amigos del Mar, I dive with them every time I go to Cabo (6 trips so far) They have a Trimaran (not a panga like most of the other ops) with Oxygen on board, they list their boats as the most comfortable dive boats in Cabo and they are right. The DMs are knowledgable and able to find the interesting stuff, plus they are safety conscious. They also rent Scubapro gear that is in pretty good shape for rental and full wetsuits which you will definitely need even in May. Amigos del Mar will require that you dive at least one dive in the bay area so they can assess your skills before they will take you to across the bay, to Cabo Pulmo or to Gordo Banks. Amigos del Mar is located near the fishing and cruise ship docs, close to the Galeon Restaurant, bottom of the hill up to Solmar, Finnesterra and Playa Grande resorts. Have a fabulous time.
