I am staying in Cozumel and plan to catch the ferry over to the mainland to dive El Pit or The Pit. Has anyone here done this? Could you recommend a guide? How to do transportation?

Thanks so much.

I got to dive it once. It's on the Dos Ojos property. Hell of a giant stride entry. The operator took care of the ground transportation. There is a hike from the road to the entrance.

If you are adventurous you can take a collectivo van to dos ojos from playa, Just ask one of the tricycle drivers to show you where to catch the van. You can use one of the on site guides at dos ojos dive center. You can use one of the many guides in the playa-tulum area, but you will pay much more.

I've dived "The Pit" twice (cavern zone as I am not cave certified). It is a very cool dive...you descend down what feels like a silo through layers of hydrogen sulphide that feel like thick fog. I recommend Erik Rosenstein of Beyond Diving.

Jumping in from the top is no longer needed, Don. They put in a staircase. The roads have been improved, as well and you can drive to the site.

We are here right now continuing our exploration of the Pit. You can follow our video documentary:

More fun to jump from the little tree at the top.

Dove "The Pit" last month. Loved it. Had amazing sunlight streaming in that seemed to reach down 90 feet.
I believe we bottomed out right around 140 ft. Hydrogen Sulfide layer was well defined, and spooky.

I would suggest ProTec in Tulum. I had a wonderful holiday diving the cenotes with this company and I can tell you they are top notch, safety is never compromised.

Agree. I did Full Cave with Protec. The two owners are explorers, one of them has his name found on most of the cave maps in the Yucatan, as well as some of the WKPP stuff..... All of their instructors are excellent, and I'm very glad I went with them.

Wow, thank you guys for all the great tips!!!!!!!! Great info on transportation, dive guide and dive description. You guys are the best!!!!
