June next year I am going for a visit to Australia. Dutring this trip I also visit the Adelaide area and heard about Seadragons and sealions overthere, so I was wondering if somebody could share some of his experiences overthere? And could suggest a diveshop and a place to stay?

Looking forward to your answer!

Hi,

I live in South Australia – I have the following comments.

June is winter time, so water will be cold (as low as 10 degrees C). Subject to weather conditions on the day, sites near Adelaide that are worth doing include shore dives such as Port Noarlunga (40 km south of Adelaide) & Rapid Bay, and boat dives such as artificial reef sites off Glenelg and Seacliffe Reef. If you have a spare weekend, you may consider a trip to Edithburgh (225km drive from Adelaide) or diving with the cuttlefish at Whyalla (refer http://www.bsac.com/diverreports.as...ion=1245&sectionTitle=Australasia+%2F+Pacific).

Seadragons – the sites where a sighting is most likely include Rapid Bay (100km south of Adelaide) and Wool Bay & Klein’s Point (200 km by road from Adelaide).

Seals & Sealions – while these are occasionally sighted around Adelaide, the best venues are in the rural areas of the state (i.e. near Port Lincoln, Port Victoria, southern Yorke Peninsula, Kangaroo Island).

Dive stores – there are currently 6 dive stores (in alphabetical order) that provide the full service – Adelaide Scuba, Divers Delight, Divers Service, Dive Shack, Southern Diving Centre, and Underwater Sports. Choice of store will be influenced by where you stay and where you want to go diving. All of these stores have websites.

Place to stay – suggest that you can start with the state government’s tourism website South Australia - Adelaide, Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Kangaroo Island, Maps, Hotels, Online Booking (please note that there is a diving page on this site - South Australia - Diving in South Australia).
