HI! I got my fiance hooked on diving through a "dive experience" in the Caribbean and now he wants to get certified. Anyone have a recommendation for a great instructor in Manhatten? Or at least in NYC? Thanks, I'm looking forward to blowing lots of bubbles with him in the future!

I have heard that Pan Aqua Diving(43rd Street) and Empire Divers(81st Street), both in Manhattan are very good. Personally have never used them though.

can try www.captainmikesdiving.com
located in NYC in the Bronx on City Island..small ,personal service facility..we do training , sales ,repairs, local dives..,travel..Some commercial work and movie/television work..

I signed up for classes in March yesterday at Pan Aqua. Very nice people and very helpful in picking things out. So far satisfied.

I did my ow with a small shop in brooklyn, they were very good, Scuba NY 718-769-0099 on Gerritsen ave. I think the # is correct. Good luck

I can repeat what Underdog said - that I've heard good things about Pan Aqua and Empire, but have no personal experience.

I have two problems with Pan Aqua. I want to buy where I get training, and I don't like what Pan Aqua sells, (e.g., Henderson wetsuits, fancy shmancy BCDs). I also think their travel trips are overpriced, I mean more so than trips by other shops. Oh yeah.

I also got bad equipment advice from them on two different occasions. On one occassion the sales person dissed a mask they didn't have (the new Atomic).

I know it's a hike, but the only shop I get a warm and fuzzy about is Scuba Network in Carle Place.

Try calling some of the dive boat operators in nyc and see who they reccomend, The Jeannie and The Karen are both in brooklyn
