Totally agree. I have done ~3000 dives and have done every one without AI (except for a brief flirtation with an Aladian Nitrox in the 1990s) and I have survived somehow.

AI is 100 percent a preference but it's becoming more and more de rigueur and life's too short to continue to beat the drum.

Dive your way....
Same, I tried for one dive and had issues, so went back to my gauge. Somtimes, simple is best:))))

Of course their customer service is good, they have had a lot of practice at it repairing or replacing their defective computers.

Oh, yeah... that's definitely what Shearwater is know for! LOL

Actually I would make more money selling him the Scubapro computer and transmitter but thanks for playing.

Also not sure where you get the $300 difference. The Peregrine TX with transmitter is $1000 the LUNA 2.0 with transmitter is $923.

The shearwater product is a superior dive computer.
I see Luna 2 AI listed at $430 + Smart Pro transmitter $315 = $745, right?

I just bought a new, whichever the shorter one is for $220

Anyone still running iwatec/Scubapro Galileo Sol wireless these days? Have a chance for one at very price, but seems discontinued. Has all the bits plus some. TIA

Wowww...
But let's get back to the beginning, to the beginners and his question:
"I'm new to diving. Finishing my PADI OW cert this weekend." OW and 0-24 dive!
My answer is any that you don't mind spending money on!
P.S.
A beginner guitarist asks:
- What are the best guitars?
- All of them, but they all have one drawback - they don't play themselves!
