Recommend a dive spot in Fiji?

I'm going to visit Fiji in Nov/Dec. I have a week and would like to get in a few dives.
Can anyone recommend some top sites? I'm particularly interested in ones on or within quick vicinity of Viti Levu as I'm most likely going to be based there.

I was really hoping someone answered this. DocV once told me the best way to do Fiji is liveaboard.

There is a message board on lonelyplanet.com called the thorn tree. Although it is geared toward long term travellers, Fiji, in particular, has appears to have very good information. Scan through a couple of pages of the South Pacific/PNG page.

Let us know how your adventure went. I had contact with the embassy in Suva, they are very helpfull if you need assistance. In talking with them a couple of months ago, things seemed to have calmed down a lot politically and are mostly back to normal.

Hi Louie,

Early Nov can be very good Fiji scuba. I have about a 4 part trip report on diving Viti Levu, but I'll cut straight to the chase. The best diving on the main island, bar none, is with Crystal Divers http://www.crystaldivers.com/index.shtml up in the northeast out of Rakiraki. Tell my old buddy Dan Grenier that I sent you.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

I've had to do major trip rearrangements due to the problems facing airlines following Sept 11th and now, I've added Vanuatu to my South Pacific stint.

I'm going to try to get a dive in near Nadi (will give Crystal Divers a ring)and I'm off for four days in Kadavu (Astrolabe Reef). Hopefully the weather will be good.

Will report back diligently.

Lucky you.

RE Crystal Divers--I'd send Dan an e-mail before you depart to make at least tentative arrangements. It's a couple hour drive from Nadi & doing business on Fiji isn't always as easy as simply picking up a phone.
