Anyone recently stay at Ocean point Suites? Read some reviews on Trip Advisor and they ranged from "roach motel" to just fine. Would appreciate any information.

I stayed at Ocean Point Suites on my certification trip in December. The room we were in was quite nice--definitely no roaches, though a few ants did wander in (probably through the open door...). I found Ocean Point Suites clean and comfortable. They have a nice pool area and volleyball too, for surface interval entertainment :D My only "complaint" was that I wish it were within walking distance of more restaurants and shops. I more recently stayed at the Holiday Inn in Key Largo, and enjoyed being closer to shops/dining staying there.

We stayed at Ocean Point a couple years ago - had a 2 bedroom unit and it was pretty nice. It wasn't cheap, but the unit was spacious and seemed to be well-maintained and clean. At the ground level, there were a bunch of raccoons that came out at night and my kids and I enjoyed feeding them. They really liked Kix cereal..

I've stayed at Ocean Pointes and loved it. Two bedroon, 2 bathrooms made it nice for comfort and privacy. No roaches in our room. Would definitely go back.

For all those that replied (and future replies), How was the "beach" at Ocean Pointe? How do you think non-divers would like the complex?

BTW: in repsonse to the other post about the Holiday Inn. I've stayed there before and really liked it. It's normal no-thrills Holiday Inn, had clean rooms, has a nice pool, onsite dive boats, and is "right in the middle" of everything.

Mike-
The "beach" at Ocean Pointe is okay for sunbathing (lots of white sand)... I didn't see anyone actually in the water when we were there, but it was December then.

I'd say the complex is nice for divers and nondivers alike--though if nondivers were there without a car (e.g. when divers are off diving), they might find it difficult to get to many attractions/restaurants.

Personally, my husband and I prefer the Holiday Inn. But, if you like to cook on vacation (I prefer to eat out!), Ocean Pointe does have nice kitchenettes. :D

As a dive shop we are down in Key Largo every month. We have stayed at Ocean Pointe every month for three years. We have never had a problem with the rooms. Some are more decorated then others. We normally stay in the two bedrooms looking at the ocean. We love having the family room to hang out as a group. Prices are very good also. Our only complaint would be the constantly changing front desk staff. But we love Ocean Pointe.

Quality of reviews is always tempered by the expectations of the reviewers...

If your expecting the Marriott and you get Marina Del Mar, Ocean Point, or the Hungry Pelican, well, your not paying Marriott rates, and you'll be disappointed.

Alot of the smaller Keys establishments don't have the 'finer luxuries' of a 4 star resort, afterall a hurricaine could come through and wipe everything out.

I go to dive, not lounge around in rooms. As long as its relatively clean, dry, and quiet, thats all I need. Probably the only place I'd avoid is Kelly's - but then again, it could have just been a bad room.

We stayed at Ocean Point problem over a dozen times in the past year. We go there simply because It has a on-site marina that is less the 8 NM to most reef's, and within 10 NM to the wrecks. It is also easier to navigate having your own boat, rather then coming out of John Penny camp, which have done many times also.

When I bring my wife, I stay at what used to be the Weston, and is now the Sheraton. Alot more pricey, but very nice room's, and I'd give it a 3+ on a scale 1-4, while giving Ocean Point 2.0

We do alot of diving, all day, grab some dinner, then head out till 1 am diving, then going right back out the next morning. My wife likes to dive till about 4pm, then grab dinner, but not head out on the night dives. So the accommodations to her are more important, where when I head down with my friend's, It's just a place to stay.

I can say there where a few time's we had room's with " roach's " and we went right down to the lobby, and they traded us room's. Problem is, we normally pick a room near the dock's of the boat's, so it's not far carrying all our dive gear back to the room. But a few time's, we ended up way away from the dock's, because of being close to full.

Also if bringing your own boat, reserve the slip way in advance, as they fill up fast.

We go down every year, as well as this year for the 4th of July, watch the fire works' from shore, then head out to the Spiegel to do a night dive on her, couldn't ask for more
Matter of fact, were all ready reserved for this 4th !

As for the room's, they are hit and miss, sometimes very clean, well taken care of, and sometimes you get a older room, darker, Little dirty, etc.

Ant's are another problem, go out to the kitchen at 2am, and watch everything crawling around on the kitchen top's !!

All in all, your probably wondering why we keep going back , when it sounds that bad. It's really not, and like someone else said, it's hard to stay in the upper Key's at a 4 star place. Not many around. Holiday Inn is also very nice, good prices with their own marina, as well as Marina Del Mar , we stay at all of them, just depends who can fit boat, and has vacancy. Good luck !
