A scuba diver died after being found unconscious off Point Loma Saturday, the Coast Guard said.
The Coast Guard received a call at 10:55 a.m. that a 73-year-old man who was diving had been found unconscious and unresponsive. The diver had been found off the tide pool area near the sewage treatment plant, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Lifeguards and Coast Guard responded by boat. A lifeguard started CPR on the man, and the Coast Guard transported him by boat to a nearby naval base.
The diver was pronounced dead on the scene. His name has not been released.
The fire department and lifeguards are investigating the incident and interviewing the man’s dive partner.
They said the diver was using a rebreather system.
