What is the real lionfish situation in Roatan. Is a license really needed if using operator.
I haven't been there in nine years, but as of 2015 anyone taking lionfish had to attend a half-day class at the marine park to obtain a permit. As I was on the clock for work that wasn't an option; I recall seeing quite a few (lets say double digits over three days) on the reef wall we were diving in Mahogany Bay. Suffice to say coming from my normal dive environment where it's a total free-for-all and just about anything short of explosives goes, it was frustrating.

I can neither confirm nor deny that one swam away with a newfound terror of what an angry diver with half-decent reflexes and a broken snorkel as a pickup weapon can do.
