hi. i am about to use my new reg this coming weekend. no more rental regs! yea! (thanks to my family birthday present a couple months ago) i bought an spg as well. i'm going to have my husband put the spg on there for me tonight. then friday i'm gonna pick up our rental tanks, and a reg for hubby (i asked for a reg for my birthday and he didn't......lol), and i'll hook my reg up to the tank while i'm at the lds to make sure i don't have any leaks or need any adjustments. my husband wants to know if you're supposed to put any kind of tape, like teflon tape on the threads before attaching the spg.

No tape. The o-ring makes the seal. A little o-ring lube is nice but not necessary. Only thing you can really do wrong is overtighten them. Make them finger tight and then just enough more (less than 1/4 turn) so you can't loosen them by hand. At finger tight they will made a good seal but may come lose with handleing.

Hopefully the SPG came with a spool, sometime called a swivel pin amongst other names. It is a small item with a tiny o-ring towards each end. This should be lubricated with a very small amount of silicone grease or oxygen compatible lubricant such as Christolube if the reg will ever be used for Nitrox. This spool is what provides the seal at the hose/spg connection. No other selant, 0-rings or tape is either necessary or adviseable. If the spg already has the hose attached see post #2.

Just put on a little mildly abrasive toothpaste, rub it around.... NO WAIT!! That's for a new mask! :D

LOL. Enjoy the new equipment!
