Watching YouTube makes me want to spend money. I bet Robin at Backscatter is Olympus’ best salesman ever

My wife and I are trying to figure out our next trip, sometime in March/April. Just went to AKR on Roatan in October. Kinda want to head back to Cozumel, but with SCC gone, we’re not sure where the go.

Grand Cayman might be fun, and we’ve never been there. Or maybe Curaçao?

We’re in the Dallas area, so the Caribbean is easy.

Any suggestions?

Cozumel, Paradise Reef night dive last year with TG6.

Curacao and Bonaire. The best places to learn how to use your new camera setup.

Those two are definitely on the short list. We kinda want to go cheapish on this next one and do a more extravagant trip in the fall/winter. So Cozumel is edging its way to the top of the list.

Any experience with Hotel Cozumel? All of my research shows it’s fairly decent.

A direct flight from DFW on AA helps. Coz is quick and easy. We’re not fans of Miami’s international set-up.

Maybe Belize? We haven’t been there yet

Curacao and/or Bonaire (especially since you will be testing/learning how to use a new camera).

I've been to all places you mentioned. I have been back to Curacao 13 times and Bonaire many times but never returned back to Cozumel or Belize. I'd rather go to Curacao and Bonaire not the others.

We are even considering a CRUISE (GASP!). One of the owners of our chosen LDS likes to do his dive travel through cruising.

Positives:
  • Get to experience several new dive sites to see if we like them enough to return for a "real" dive trip
  • Cheap lodging and food
  • No airport customs
Negatives:
  • Schlepping our gear on and off the ship, storing it in what will likely be a TINY cabin
    • We don't want to rent, we like our own gear
  • Booking dives through cruise line (probably) = 30' sandy bottom dives with a literal boat load of bicycle-kicking, coral-kicking, mask-kicking folks
  • Booking dives through local diver operations = more work!
  • It's a cruise ship, the bane of reefs everywhere
I'm stuck in what my wife calls analysis paralysis!

IMHO the negatives far outweigh the positives. But great for non-divers...
