So I finished my confined PADI course and I'm waiting for warm weather to do my open water.
I've decided to buy some gear including a drysuit to be ready.
I will be back in the pool for some drysuit instruction before the ice melts.
I guess my only observation so far is I'm ready to relax.
The pool training was not rushed in any way and I was very pleased with my instructors and I'm sure OW will be the same, but....
I can't wait to slow things down a bit.

I'm looking forward to the time before a dive when you get with your buddies and plan your dive, and the time between dives when you hang out.
But most of all I'm looking forward to the dive when you get to relax, take things in and improve your skills.
This is what excites me, this is what it's all about.

I guess I'm in a hurry to slow things down.

Nothing wrong with that thought process. As a matter of fact, I have seen a lot of divers that really should slow down.

I like your attitude. You'll probably enjoy the laid back banter on your first couple of dive boat journeys. That is until they say time to gear up. Then the race begins! Not really, but it sure seemed that way to me when I first started.

I think your head is in a great place, Gregorv62. You are looking forward to enjoying diving, and enjoying it with friends and other. And that is a great place to be. You mind, however, that once you are diving for recreational fun and pleasure, that you get anxious to plan the next dive, locally or the the next dive trip, and then may have a bit of impatience between dives. We all go through that. I am constantly looking ahead to the next local dive or dive trip, and sometimes that is what gets me through the day. Be an active diver, and enjoy it all!

That's me! I can't stand the thought of going on a dive trip without having another one to look forward to once the trip is over. So right now I have Cozumel in June, the Socorro Islands in November, Fiji in the spring of 2015, and Cocos in the fall of 2015. Will try and work Little Cayman in as well.

There are so many dive spots in the world so I doubt that you will have the time to do them all in a lifetime.
There really isn´t anything forcing you to do as much as you can or keeping up with someone else´s pace. It´s a good thing to take a break from scuba diving once in a while, it makes going back to it an even greater experience especially when you´ve stopped in a long time.

If you´re looking for dive sites near you, take a look here

Hope that helps
Ed
