I started diving this past year after a lapse of nine years or more . I bought a bunch of new equipment a reg , BC , Lights , fins etc . I had to hydro all seven of my tanks and began preping my boat . My electronics were in a sorry state of affairs with my depth sounder being left outside and soaking in a bucket of water for years . The GPS was a old handheld which worked at first but locked up . I bought a new GPS and sounder and took the boat out for a maiden voyage . I was hit with multiple problems such as the new GPS was defective the waterpump not being good also there also was a fuel flow restriction . I replaced the waterpump and found the fuel flow problem . I returned the defective GPS and decided to get credit and purchase a map plotter unit . I installed the new GPS and took the boat out to go diving only to find the new unit did not work . It sure screwed up the dive not being able to find the wreck . I brought the unit to the store and it seemed to be working . I spent twenty hours and missed many dives out on the water with this dam GPS not functioning . I even returned it to the factory and got a new one . I asked the manager if there was a possible antenna reception problem but he sought it was not the problem . Again ,took the boat and new GPS to go dive and was positive it should work . Hell no and missed the last day of lobster season . I read every word in the manual and discovered on page eighty two that a external antenna was necessary when it is installed in a metal console . Read the instructions dummy !! regards Charles
