Puffer, to get replacement o-rings for Canon housings see the sticky at the top of this subforum. You have to call the Canon Parts Department (U.S.) to get the o-rings. I've done this twice for two different housings I've had. Canon had the o-rings even though the cameras and housings had been discontinued for a while. I don't know why they won't let camera stores sell them. Obviously, extra o-rings are something any reasonable consumer would like to buy when they purchase their housings.

Thanks Dave... will call (it is almost like they don't want anyone to have replacement seals).

Jim, here's the info:
Call the Canon Parts Order Desk at (732) 521-7230. It's open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm EST.

My first UW digital was a canon S45 with canon housing which I used for a few years. I ordered 2 spaare o-rings from them and got them within a few days.

Am calling in to order 2 spares for my new G10 tomorrow.

I'm one of the unlucky ones. Despite rigorous maintenance, mine flooded spectacularly at just 7m after a handful of dives. There is no doubt that they are much more flimsy than Ikelite or Pattima. Now I use an Ikelite which I am much happier with and trust.

I am sorry to hear of your flood. I know it must be very frustrating, but unless the housing flooded somewhere other than at the O ring, I don't think flimsiness would have anything to do with it. No doubt the Patima, Fisheye and probably the Ike are more robust cases, but substantially more expensive.

I have been lucky so far with several Canon housings, but I am sure you know even a tiny hair, grain of sand or small damage to the O ring can cause a leak. I don't think it is fair to condemn the housing because of a flood, unless the housing was indeed faulty. Perhaps yours was, but if so you should probably describe it so we have a better idea of the merits of your issue.

I've had a canon housing for almost 4 years now and have 100+ dives with the camera and have never had a problem with it leaking or even fogging up. Still using the original o-ring even.

Hi All

Thanks a lot for all the advice – I feel really good now about the Canon housing choice.
There is just one thing that is bothering me at the moment. When I opened the box to check that all the contents were inside I saw that the housing was stored in the closed (buckle locked) position. Since I got the housing for a good price I believe is due to the fact that not a lot of these housings are sold so I have no idea how long it was stored in the shop in this way. I know Sony is very specific about this and even include a rubber piece to keep the housing open. I saw that Canon gives the same advice in the user guide. Could somebody please tell me if their housing was also shipped to them in the closed position and after what time the O-ring starts loosing it’s memory to return to the original round shape. I may sound over the top on this issue but after studying o-ring design for the focus light I built I became very much aware of the very fine tolerances (thousands of an inch) that makes an o-ring seal properly and I am not about to take chances with such a fine camera.
(yes I am properly wowed by the 14 mega pixel detail so far)

was the oring installed in the case when u got it, or did you install it. If you installed it, then there was not a seal around the case and it does not matter. I store my case closed with the oring off. I actually store the oring inside the case, not installed, just inside the case so I do not misplace it.

BTW, I have 2 canon cases, g7,s500, buddies have g10 and g7 cases, no leaks in over 100 dives with each camera each.
