sorry to hijack the thread, but my wife has the canon g10 housing (120 dives, no problems, has an adapter that allows Inon macro lens, but no WA solution yet), and she has problem with sticky buttons from time to time. suggested solutions?

Gravity,
Check out this thread.

Basically, you need to make sure you rinse the buttons and 'exercise' them. Push them in and out from both sides.

I'm one of the unlucky ones. Despite rigorous maintenance, mine flooded spectacularly at just 7m after a handful of dives. There is no doubt that they are much more flimsy than Ikelite or Pattima. Now I use an Ikelite which I am much happier with and trust.

Hi All

Thanks a lot for all the advice – I feel really good now about the Canon housing choice.
There is just one thing that is bothering me at the moment. When I opened the box to check that all the contents were inside I saw that the housing was stored in the closed (buckle locked) position. Since I got the housing for a good price I believe is due to the fact that not a lot of these housings are sold so I have no idea how long it was stored in the shop in this way. I know Sony is very specific about this and even include a rubber piece to keep the housing open. I saw that Canon gives the same advice in the user guide. Could somebody please tell me if their housing was also shipped to them in the closed position and after what time the O-ring starts loosing it’s memory to return to the original round shape. I may sound over the top on this issue but after studying o-ring design for the focus light I built I became very much aware of the very fine tolerances (thousands of an inch) that makes an o-ring seal properly and I am not about to take chances with such a fine camera.
(yes I am properly wowed by the 14 mega pixel detail so far)

Mine came with the housing closed...and I wish I could get a replacement O-ring somewhere..

The material the o-ring is made of has a very slow memory..not like any material I have had before...

A couple of things in your favor.. the camera and housing are not that old.. and the housing has been difficult to get because it has been selling out..and that material..

Just leave it open for a few days before actually using it underwater.

I have something over 100 dives on it, with an average depth of around 80 ft... and so far so good.. but as it is a single o-ring, would make sure it is absolutely clean..

My two cents: I've had a Canon housing ( WP-DC4)for a few years and no problems( 35 dives). Last year at the shop I dived with the owner showed me two Canon housings that had failed. They failed at the little red seal under the closure buckle. It looks as if this is how Canon pressure tests the housings. On mine I have sealed it on the inside of the Canon seal with some silicone. I have now stored mine with the case open.

Puffer, to get replacement o-rings for Canon housings see the sticky at the top of this subforum. You have to call the Canon Parts Department (U.S.) to get the o-rings. I've done this twice for two different housings I've had. Canon had the o-rings even though the cameras and housings had been discontinued for a while. I don't know why they won't let camera stores sell them. Obviously, extra o-rings are something any reasonable consumer would like to buy when they purchase their housings.
