Hi,
Didn't know were to put this .
Here is my question I live in Australia and I sent my tanks to be o2 cleaned. And the guys at the shop put nitrox stickers on the tanks, I asked then why did they put those stickers on, as I didn't want any thing on the tanks .

As I am going to use these tanks for trimix. Now the shop told me that they have to put nitrox stickers on the tanks apparently it's a must as part of the cleaning. I'm not 100% sure on the aid standard ad they said it was Padi who told them they have to

A nitrox sticker doesn't mean it's o2 clean.

it just means that it's got a blended gas in it with an o2 content other than 21%. For trimix, I have no clue what stickers they put on. seeing how some tri-mix blend tanks also on another fill might have Nitrox in them also, some of them might have Nitrox band stickers.

If you want your tank to be represented as o2 clean, it will need a sticker that says "O2 clean". typically in the US this is a punch out on the VIS sticker.

It's total rubbish. Who cares what PADI have to say, they don't make standards in Oz. I wouldn't mind betting that they put them on as the shops SOP, & it's not a PADI policy at all. I'll bet they charged you for them too, & that'll be the reason for the SOP.

A heat gun will remove them quite easily.

Tri mix tanks will have anything from no stickers at all, to custom gas, or nitrox stickers.

Might I suggest the Airspeed Press sticker of "VooDoo Gas" :thumb:

@Kern yes this is what I think as well

And I will look at get a couple of those airpress stickers

How does the sticker know what mix is in the tank? Even if it could tell, would the sticker fall off if the tank is filled with 21%?

:cool2:

They should have only noted oxygen clean on the visual inspection sticker. I would take the tanks back and they should have a heat gun to remove the Nitrox stickers. That was absolute crap blaming PADI for it as they don't have anything to do with it.

I would ask what is on those stickers besides nitrox and where they got them. I'm betting that they are from PADI. I had a big to do with my old OW instructor over that. I was told that being a PADI shop the tanks had to have the big stickers on them which he bought from PADI and charged me 6 bucks each for! I know it's BS but in the PADI nitrox manual I have it says the tanks have to marked in this way. When I took them in for the last time years ago he did not want to fill them because all I had on it was a vis and O2 clean sticker down on the bottom of the tank. Oh and my duct tape from the last dive with my mix, MOD, and date. Take em back and have the shop remove them and refund your money because they did charge you for those stickers no matter what they say. They don;t get them for free.

Scuba tanks are dealt with a little differently in Oz than they are in the US. Here, the tanks under go a viz & a hydro on a yearly basis. Rather than a sticker, the date & test facility ID is stamped into the metal of the tank, usually around the crown.

When a tank undergoes an O2 service, which will usually take place at the same time as the viz & hydro inspections, any one of a few things may happen. Usually (in my experiance anyway) they will just put the big nitrox stickers on. Some will put an O2 clean sticker on with the date clipped out as well as the big nitrox ones. If you tell them you don't wont their nitrox stickers they will usually argue unless it's a savvy LDS.
