Hi Everyone,

What a great site!!

I first got interested in diving from a friend. A Divemaster that was forced to live and dive in HI by the US Army. All good things come to an end and he moved back to his native Michigan (mine too). He and I did a pile of snorkelling in FW lakes, and soon, he mentioned trying tanks. Although he was not an "instructor" we had 100s of hours snorkelling together, at all hours of the day. I think that's important, instructor knowing student. Late one summer, I got my first taste of true diving (at 22') in a freshwater lake. I was hooked. The following spring I was sent to GA for a few months by the state, and decided I wanted more. I signed up for an open water class, (proud as hadies of my used snorkelling gear), and did the classroom and pool stuff. Certification dive was a trip to West Palm. Leaving Michigan in April and going to the Gulf Stream in June makes the diving heavenly.

Back in MI, I did some diving and enjoyed it, but through typical life progressions, I left the sport. Now I'm back! I am going on a cruise in Sept., a couple of the options on the cruise are diving. Knowing that diving is essentialy safe, when done by trained, responsible divers, I started my research into re-cert. So much has changed it seems to be a different sport. I am now reading, reading, reading. I borrowed an SSI basic book from a co-worker, found this great site, and a local dive shop. Using these tools I hope to get back into the sport, meet great people, and continue to learn how we got the short end by not having gills.

TY,
G

You might consider taking a refresher course, or, if it's been a long time, getting re-certified like I did.
Check out the "Great Lakes Wrecking Crew" forum to hook up with other divers in your area.

Howdy!

Welcome to Scuba Board! Now we just need to get you down to South Florida for some quality diving with the Florida Conchs!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!!!!

Here's some more, if it matters....

I now live in NEPA, Dutch Springs area I've found.

I will be in S. FL in Sept. to dive pending proper refreshers.

I dove a couple Great Lakes Wrecks...don't ask where, but really nice, and of course COLD!!! I am certain 80deg dives are better....

For any other new comers....search, read, search, read, you probablly aren't the first to ask it, so the answer is here.

Now, back to lurking...
