not sure how this happened, but when I was rinsing my sherwood outback BCD in the tub, Rapid Exhaust Valve felt a part. I was lucky and found all 3 parts (ring, valve, cover).

It should be very easy to put them together, but just in case... did I do it correctly? I am not 100% sure about the valve

ring, then valve with the white flapper out, then cover

See pic below

thank you

That will do it. You may have to pull down a bit on the pull dump to get the o-ring and valve in place and the cover started. Make sure the cover is snug.

Yes, that's the correct order.

Once you get it back together, please check it for proper functionality. I would consider having your LDS check it if you are not 100% sure.

I read a true story in the book Divers Down, diver has the same problem and missed an o-ring. He did not test it and the missing oring went undetected. The BC would not hold air and as a result (with a few other mistakes) he did not survive.

thank you

If you don't use it, replace it with a solid elbow (cheap) and you'll never have to worry about that again.

Cheap = $9.00 for the Dive Rite Elbow even at LDS prices. Very cheap insurance when you consider what happens if it comes apart underwater.

Is it common to replace it? This is the first time I hear about it.

I was very very surprised this happened to me and I totally agree, this could cause "some" problems under water although I think it's probably not that common.

For the people I know, yes it is common to remove and replace with an elbow.

I have seen these malfunction and leak gas more than once.

If you use it, teach yourself not to, pulling on that hose is not a good idea, if you don't use it, spend the small amount of time and money to have piece of mind.

thank you for the response, although I test it every time I go diving, I never use it. I will probably replace it.
