Honestly, this wasn't meant as a troll, although I should have anticipated that there would be some debate about the whole issue.

Some of the issues that have been raised in this thread have clarified what I already knew: lots of people love it, lots of people find some value in the teachings, and some people will do anything just because someone tells them they should or can.

<unintentional troll deleted>

I respect the vast majority of people on this board and I'm thrilled to be a part of this community. I will listen to all advice and suggestions and then take what I need and chuck the rest. Most important of all, I'm gonna dive.

Someone mentioned in an earlier post that they have had students that thought that they were comfortable in their gear until they tried to maintain good trim (or something like that). I have always been comfortable in my gear (poodle jacket), but I tried a BP and wing in the pool last week and the instant improvement in my ability to maintain a horizontal position in the water sold me. It was effortless to swim or hover with almost perfect trim and bouyancy. So I bought my own BP and wing this week. I'll keep learning about DIR and testing things out and take whatever pieces I believe in. How else other than studying something can you really understand it?

=-)

chuck who? ...sorry

There are reasons for everything they dictate. You might be able argue the reason and you might even be right but they have reasons. Finding out the reasoning is the only way to figure out if you agree or not.

This was actually very calm for a DIR discussion. What's this board comming to?

And where is Nick?

The idea that I can take a class and become a competent tech dive is absurd. There is no way that I'm going from a 60 fsw pretty fish dive to 300 fsw cave diving on the suggestion that I'm fully qualified after a week with an "expert".

It's beyond absurd...and which GUE instructor ever told you this was the case?

After a minor fin incident in the pool yesterday, I considered that spring straps wouldn't be such a bad idea <gasp>,

Be very careful, that’s how it starts, and it’s a slippery slope! Next you’ll try a back plate and wings and like them. Then, perhaps a out of air (OOA) drill with a buddy diving the long hose. Next thing you know you’ve been assimilated.

The only thing that’s saved me to this point is my love for my brain rotting air integrated computer!

The proper term is "beyond the pale!"
I don't think she has been talking to GUE instructors. That came from something in an Aquatech post. That's why he doesn't have all his stars colored in I think. LOL

you can jump into tech diving with no knowledge about it at all, no research required, no trail and error, no experience neccessary.

you just do as your told, wear what your told, and live the life as required. by doing this you will survive.

now new tech divers have someone to follow into the abyss and without really doing any research know they will come back to dive another day.

Although I fully understand that the above could potentially be a sarcastic statement. I still believe in the baby steps and not rushing into anything.

Your totally jumping to conclusions here and need to get your facts straight before you jump to conclusions.
