I have recently been certified by Ken of Rainbow Scuba, a smaller, more hands-on outfit.
I was very happy with his professionalism and ease to work with. In fact, I was not treated like cattle, which I observed on various boat dives. Like anywhere else, Ken has to make money to make a living. But I paid $350.00 through a shop, and ended up with Ken anyways. I did not receive a DVD from the shop I paid $350, while he gave his $200 students the DVD to watch, a small matter, but just an example how Rainbow Scuba operates.
Strangely enough, the shop I signed up through, I fully understand the price differential. I still enjoy going to that particular shop and will patronize them each opportunity I have. I based my initial decision on becoming certified by the store's appearance. I unknowingly was certified by Rainbow Scuba who was contracted out by said shop, which I am glad for.
I am in the service industry, and though a new scuba diver, I am no dummy; I know when I am being 'taken for a ride'. As mentioned above, Ken has demonstrated top notch professionalism, and has repeatedly taken the time to explain any and all questions I had.
As so far to address the porn issue, as a small outfit, Ken had unknowingly used free services of a server which, unfortunately, linked porn sites to his site. He is working on resolving the matter I had been told. While he lacks the large store-backing nor a store front to work out of, he does not have the associated overhead, thus the ability to offer a lower price. I will go out on a limb to say he doesn't have an IT Department, thus the dirty pics!
Whatever the case, if anyone has questions, I urge you to give him a chance and/or call.
Mahalo,
Kelii
