Scholarship Fund Setup in Partners Memory
(IRVINE, CA) September 16, 2010 It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the untimely death of one of our LPA family members: Structural Engineer and Principal Kenny K. Lee. Lee died on Sunday, September 12, 2010 in a diving accident in Laguna Beach, Calif. He was 41 years old.
He was a gifted structural engineer and he brought his considerable talents to our firm when his engineering firm, Lee George Structural Engineers, merged with LPA in 2007, said LPA President Dan Heinfeld. Everyone in our company was touched by Kennys humor, infectious smile, intellect, and professionalism. He was all the things that a leader should be, open, caring and freely giving to help his team be successful. He had a passion for structural engineering that was unique and made all of us better. He will be greatly missed by his friends here at LPA.
Lee is survived by his wife Ling and their two daughters, nine-year-old Florence and Josephine (Jo-Jo) who turns six this Sunday.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 25, 2010 at 9 a.m. at The Church of Our Fathers at Forest Lawn in Cypress, Calif. (4471 Lincoln Ave, Cypress, CA 90630). An indicator of the lasting impact Lee made on others, the service is expected to be standing room only.

Our hearts and love go out to his family and to all who had the privilege of getting to know Kenny. He was an amazing man, friend, and professional, said LPA CFO Charles Pruitt. There is nothing we can say to diminish the shock and loss that we feel. Kenny will be sorely missed.

About Kenny K. Lee
Kenny Lee had more than 20 years of experience in analysis, design and construction of a wide variety of projects. He was a specialist in applying new technologies in seismic design and he conducted extensive research in welded steel moment connections. In 1998, Lee was appointed by the Structural Engineers Association of California (SEAOC) and the National Science Foundation (NSF) to represent U.S. engineers in the U.S.-Japan Joint Workshop in Tokyo. His research was later adopted and incorporated in FEMA 350 as design guidelines.
Lee was responsible for the structural design of many significant works, including the $200 million Jakarta Galeria, the $160 million Mission Place, and the $60 million Jet Propulsion Laboratory Flight Projects Center, to name a few. He was a plan check consultant for the Division of State Architect (DSA) and in 2007, merged his company, Lee George Structural Engineers, with LPA where he became a partner. Lee was a LEED Accredited Professional, and a registered California structural and civil engineer.
