From the Physiology Section of the PADI Dive Theory Exam:

I believe there is one family of vertebrates that does not use this molecule to transport oxygen. There are a number of invertebrates that use an alternative molecule to carry oxygen. Many of these live in the sea

Thank you for that. Very interesting how conserved hemoglobin is throughout the vertebrate animal Kingdom. I thought surely there was more than one family.
