United came down on some LBB-CZM fares around my August birthday, so I booked 17-24 for $371. :crafty: I can't find an August thread here; am I the only one going then? The airline doesn't get all that much on the ticket, $131 going to excessive taxes & fees, but they'll make their money off my luggage fees - then punish me with over a 5 hour layover in Houston!

Back to Suites Colonial: I enjoyed staying there last year, and I doubt that much has changed - but looking at the listed description, it does sound different...?

(1) Listed as a Studio with Separate living room? Really? My room was large enough last year, but is this a separate option?

(2) Coffee/tea maker: In the room, or are they referencing the one in the lobby. I like one in the room, usually buy a cheap one on arrival, then leave it with someone - but this would be nice.

(3) In-room safe: Really? None last year, and I don't trust hotel desk safes.

Bonus question: What did you do for bottled water there? It seems the hotel does not furnish that, so I got a 5 gallon jug at the corner convenience store to refill my own jugs.

thanks

Sounds like someone mixed the description of the studio's and the suites. On their own website I did not see the claim of a 'seperate' living room for the studio's.
Suites Colonial Cozumel | Hotel Casa Mexicana | Cozumel, Mexico

I haven't used them in about 2 years but when I did I get smaller jugs on water (10 L ?) from Xoxo on the corner down the street, I am too wimpy to lug 20L jugs of water any distance.

I always used the studio's on the 2nd floor about a third the way down and it was quiet as a tomb but I have heard that towards the end there is some noise spill over through the walls from 'the terrace' (forget now spell terrace in Spanish).

In August especially late August the town should be pretty empty.

That could well be it. I was looking at a booking site. The misspelled word was mine tho.

I did get wimpy carrying the 5 gallon bottle half a block. It's been decades since I used to carry 2 - 100# sacks of cow feed to save trips. I made it tho. There was a challenge finding a manager who could approve and price the bottle deposit, but I don't remember any 2.5 gallon jugs there? I could get a 5 gallon at Mega when I buy a coffee maker, then hire a cab, but he'd drop me off at the Xoxo?

That's about where I was last year, in May, and it was quiet. The end rooms would overlook the pedestrian street below but still closer to the traffic street. I've always enjoyed going in late August for my BD as the town is quieter, but not dead.

For late August 2017, I'm going to Yellowstone/Grand Teton for the solar eclipse. I wanted my kids to go if they could, didn't think they could tho since my daughter is a assistant principal and the grandkids would be i school - but she claims she can take off easier after school starts than shortly before with her current responsibilities? I don't know how she can justify the two granddaughters missing the first week, but we are including Mount Rushmore.

Well, the actual granddaughter is excited about the presidential monuments. The exchange student from China will know more about American history by then, but may not be impressed. She never complains tho, unlike the other one.

Holy shnikes, DD, we are going to bring the nieces and nephews down right in there. You gonna come a day with us? And Andy!

Really? How are the kids getting out of school? I like kids in small doses okay, but the town is quieter in late August. I'd love going with y'all and Alison and her huge boat. I just don't like paying cab fare to & from that marina. I might go with y'all several days tho, if you can pick me up for a few of them.

School? Yuk! Diving is more important. Seriously, think we are going to have them back around 20th or so for school on Monday. Of course now the missus is scolding me that we have to be back sooner. So we will have to argue that out here and check the kids schedules. I don't book till like 30-40 days out for the best Southwest price.

Anyway I will firm that up and get a copy of the space on the boat and get back to you.

Sounds like you'll leave about the time I arrive, but let me know.

I finally noticed that it does say Studio. Cool. I'll email the hotel that month to confirm they have me in a Studio with time for the booking site to troubleshoot if needed. I'm waiting a few days to book it just to put it on the next Visa billing cycle. I started to forfeit that and book tonight to take advantage of the 10% off coupon, but then I wouldn't get their program nights - which is really a pretty sweet program: Stay 10 nights even at cheaper hotel, then redeem for a night at an expensive one.

I'm going to be booking in South Dakota as soon as I return from this trip for a night at Mount Rushmore a year later (Solar Eclipse 2017 trip), so that will come in handy for that expensive location anyway. Hmmm, 5 more nights and I could book a second free room for the kids. Tempting. Eh, I need to go somewhere else this month anyway. Waiting on the mood and destination choice to hit me. Anyway....

Ok, the separate living area and the coffee maker were not provided. Someone goofed describing their standard room. It's still a nice deal, altho higher than I paid last year for the same, but I am yet irritated at Hotels.com for their misleading ad. I called, ended up talking with a supervisor in an unknown country - and she claimed that the separate living area was not in the deal. Sorry, I saved the confirmation email. She would not let me send it to her tho. I may pursue this after returning.

I'm on floor #1, which is the second floor for some reason, at the end. I do have a private balcony no one else on the floor has. It is noisy on the balcony, I'm listening to music from the plaza now, but all I hear inside the room is the AC running - essential in this heat wave. I usually enjoy cooler weather here in late August than back home, but not this year.

They do provide electronic room safes now. I like that. I got a cheap coffee maker at Mega, but they would not sell me a 20 liter water jug unless I had the bottle to exchange - so I got two 10 liter jugs. Cheap enough.
