Hi all!

First post here and just completed my PADI OW certification this morning!

These may be stupid questions, but I forgot to ask my instructor.

Are the PADI cards shipped by mail to a home address or shipped to the diving school?

How long do they usually take on average (weeks or months)?

Thanks!

My PADI OW was shipped to the dive shop and it took about 5 weeks. I think each shop does it differently though. I would just call your dive shop and ask. I would plan on 4-6 weeks for the card to show up.

I did my Nitrox with SSI and got a call to pick the card up from the dive shop less than a week after the class.

Your instructor chooses where he/she wants the cards sent by checking a box on your PIC (certification application). It can be mailed directly to you if that is the option the instructor chose on the application. If not, the instructor or dive shop should notify you when the card arrives, or at the very least, forward the card to you by mail. Shops and instructors have varying ways of handling this process.

From my recent experiences in the past month, it has been taking about 3-4 weeks (closer to 3 weeks) to receive cards in the mail that are processed by PADI Americas for students who took courses in the USA. Since you are in Canada, the timing and process could be different.

I have never had any problems with PADI's certifications processing, and all certs that I have mailed in have always been processed quickly and efficiently.

Congratulations on your recent certification and the beginning of a wonderful new sport. Your first certification is only the beginning. Remember, breathe continuously and never hold your breath, and always practice the SAFE dive rule (Slowly Ascend From Every Dive)!

Padi normally sends it to the shop if your instructor chooses as mine does because your actual validation card that you keep in your file at home has to be signed by your instructor. The plastic card that you keep in your logbook does not have to be signed by him but it comes with the paper card. The envelope it comes in is addressed to you so that your instructor can mail it to you if he chooses. Mine normally delivers mine or I pick it up at the shop. That way it does not get lost in the mail. As for time my ow took about 4 weeks. My nitrox and aow came in less than 2. In fact I got two nitrox cards! I guess I'm good to 80% (yeah right!).Anyway congrats and enjoy your new sport. Be careful though, it is addictive and you may find yourself getting really into it which would be really, really great!

When you filled out the PIC there was a spot to fill in (above instructors name, that indicates where you want the card sent. If it is not filled out then it varies, sometimes the card is sent to the store sometimes to the student address.
For how long it takes depends on which form you filled out. The old forms made into an envelope and they take about 4-6 weeks, the new forms are 81/2 x 11 and then are put into an envelope they take about 2-4 weeks depending on the current load at PADI.

Congradulations on your Cert, I hope this is just the beginning of your dive fun and education.

I got PADI OW certified last July and had my card in about 2 weeks it was sent to my home. My wife got certified same time as me and her card went to the shop in 2 weeks. I did my PADI Advanced Open Water two weeks ago this weekend and picked up my card at the shop yesterday. I guess it all depends on how soon your LDS sends it in to PADI. I am sure you got a temp card but if not call your shop and ask for one. Enjoy your diving.

It also depends on whether the shop is set up to process the PICs online. We ususally get the cards back in about 2 weeks when we process them online.

I didn't fill in any box requesting to send it to my house (Wasn't aware there was one), so the shop it is!

Thank you for all the good words.

Mine came to me at my house in about 2 weeks or less......

We generally see the PIC cards back in the shop here in Winnipeg in 2 to 4 weeks. Most shops have them sent back to the store location, and should give you a call when it arrives. Try calling them, or better yet, drop by the shop after 2 weeks and see if it's in.
