First of all, thanks for all the help here. I should have pointed out one thing; although I don't dive, I had to pay full freight, so to speak, for this trip, even though I will not be using the services of the dive crew aside from possibly a little bit of snorkeling. (This is Rocio Del Mar's rules, they don't allow a less expensive package for a non-diver like dive resorts do). I think what would make the most sense for me is to concentrate my tip on the boat, cabin, and kitchen/dining crew. And tip the dive team according to my usage of any services, including possibly focusing that tip on any particular team member who may assist me with the snorkeling.

most liveaboards have pooled tips where you give one tip that they then split. makes sense since a lot of the crew will have shared responsibilities.

only spot i have been where they had separate tips for dive crew and boat crew was egypt.

That has been my experience as well re: pooled tips. If you want to give additional to a DM, they request that you do it separately and in-hand.

Thanks again to everyone. Agood friend who works at our dive shop essentially said the same thing about pooled tips and shared responsibilities. She basically suggested that I simply give a lesser tip than the divers since I am not going to be receiving all of the services that they do. And potentially tip any DM/dive staff who works specifically with me separately on my own.
