We leave tomorrow for 8 days..staying at Lighthouse Point and diving with Dive Tech. We have a rental car. I have printed out all the information..... Also local cuisine....we like to eat out occasionally and would appreciate your recommendations on the local establishments and things we must try......

Hey Kurt

While on island try Grand Old House (south of Georgetown) on Thursdays for PASTA night. A plate of pasta for $13CI (US16.25). INCLUDING 15% grats. It is cooked in front of you like an omlet in a buffet. Its on the water so go for the sunset. Call ahead .. some times they have special parties. Well worth the trip.

On shore diving I really believe what I said. I have been to all those sites many times and in MY opinion Turtle reef at Macabuca is the best.

No it's not.

Eden Rock is the best shore dive in Cayman. I know this for a fact because I read it on the Internet Scuba Cayman's Best Shore Diving

Y'all should go dive there.

lol.

Welcome to the rock, Sir James.

FWIW, the locals who do have connections to the tourism/hospitality sector have long been pretty good about declaring our interests. Those few who have signed up in an attempt to clandestinely promote a particular shop or business have been quickly sniffed out and exposed.

Shore Diving.

I have been to eden rock about 20 times (mostly when the silversides come) and Turtle reef well over 100 times, more like 150. So which do I think is better??

Save $25

Cayman travelers be sure to EACH buy a LITRE (no larger) of booze at the duty free shop on your way to Cayman. For example at Miami duty free a LITRE of Bacardi dark rum is $15. In a liquour store in Cayman it is $32 CI (US$40). Yes booze is that expensive. So make that duty free stop coming here.

I have a question about Grand Cayman shore diving. Does anyone dive from Pedro Castle? About ten years ago I dove just east of the building from a little cut out, and the dive was beautiful. It was a bit of a climb down to the water, but worth it. I had heard some kids drowned in the area and they don't allow access anymore, but if they do it, it is a short swim out and very nice. It's never mentioned, so it must be a secret spot. Come to Brac, the shore diving is free access everywhere. I think the shoreline is Crown property around the whole island so everyone is welcome. Cheers

How is the shore diving in Brac by the way? More or less than GC?

Easier to get to the wall, shorter swims. You can dive from any place on the island weather permitting. I would say it is pretty much the same topography and animals. Won't say it is better. There is a mini wall near the shipping dock east of Creek that reminds me of the turtle farm if people get homesick for Grand. Grab some tanks and explore. Cheers

Vincent I think Drew had some insight on diving Pedro Castle.Send him a PM or try a search.

Pedro Castle

The government took over Pedro Castle and made a landmark of it.

Dont know anything about kids drowning but to the best of my knowledge they dont allow diving access any more. I have not been there since government took it over.

However I remember that dive from a very, very long time ago, There use to be a pole with a rope at that little cut out that was mentioned., Easy jumping in, but it was a devil of a time to get out, as there was not much of a step. So unless they put in a good latter, diving there would be difficult.

It was a great mini-wall that went straight down from the iron shore. Also there use to be a tiny bar there BG (before governemnt) in the old building. It was a popular spot for those on the Sunday "Heineken Tour", Ah the good old days....
