The bottom topography has a lot to do with how the approaching tsunami will behave. Have you seen the video where the wave is breaking perfectly (Big tube....from a surfer's point of view) to the right just before it hit? The difference between that and a twenty foot storm swell wave generated in the Gulf of Alaska, hitting Waimea Bay in Hawaii, is there was 3 miles of swell behind the tsunami.
