I think the advice that its up to the user is spot on. I can dive in 72 degree water with nothing but a rash guard, my wife will have a 7mm with vest with hat, my daughter a 5mm.

I will say this, my wife cant wear a hood (claustrophobic), but has a scubapro beanie type thing that works great for her. It makes a difference for her.

You could almost fill a bathtub with 72 degree water and check out how that feels to you. The cool part about the springs they are right at 72 all the time

Thanks everybody for all the information. I finally used my 3/2mm wetsuit at Vortex Spring. Water temperature was 66F, 54 feet max depth. I did 3 dives ranging from 20 min to 35 minutes each. It was comfortable, and don't think I would need a thicker suit under those conditions.

Thanks again!

Wow. At those temps and depths I'd want a 7mm, and probably a hooded vest, too. How do you know it was 66?

I was there, I think my computer said 67 for the water temp. It's always high 60s at Vortex... Of course air temp was 80, so it wasn't bad at all getting out!

ETA: I use a 3mm there, usually no gloves, don't own a hood. But I see the whole range, from dive skins to drysuits.

My dive computer shows 66 in the log... vistiflorida.com says the spring temperature is 68. Other folds diving with me were wearing more or less the same type of wetsuit, no issues. I guess if we were diving in the caves and for longer periods we would need a little more warmth.
