I live in southern Indiana like few min from downtown Lou. I am trying to figure out how to get some skill type practice divine in for the winter, like in a pool or something. I have 2 tanks full and am looking for a pay by day or whatever type deal that will allow me access to the pool so I can test out my gear and work on a few skills. Now even more tricky I have no dive buddy so I will be alone... Any ideas????

Also I was interested in trying out the volunteer deal for the Newport aquarium, I am an advanced diver (by card) and have 20 or so logged dives but I have no first aid cpr training... any thoughts on the program or where I can go to get the first aid cpr class cheep?

many more questions but all hinge on these... please let me know your thoughts..
Mike

Try the Mary T Meagher pool in Louisville. A lot of divers use that facility.

Check with either a LDS or with the Red Cross for the CPR/First Aid training.

You will probably have to call the aquarium for details. One place that may have information is Central Coast Dive Center. You can reach them at 859-426-0020. Ask for Tommy.

I forgot about the aquatic center... you think they will care if I am alone? (no dive partner.. . but I only want to test gear and work on clearing).

I do need the CPR/fa but do not want to pay out a lot of cash... last time I saw it was like 200 bucks... I am looking for a lot less. Ill call around.

Last of all the aquarium said I should be OK as long as I get the CPR/FA but they are requesting a dive resume? Do any of you have an example I could use to adapt to myself? I have only been diving for 1-2 years (20+ dives) all in a quarry and 1 in epcots tank.

thank you for all your help
Mike

Hi Mike,

I hope you are enjoying the tanks....

BTW, I did my CPR/First Aid at the Red Cross. It was the combination class and only cost about $50~$60 as I recall. I am sure this price is pretty much same, specially in the same state.

For the resume I would list your certifications and provide a summary of your diving experiences from your logbook.

The cost of the CPR/FirstAid course should only be around $50 from the Red Cross, as noted by Hoosier. The instructor course was $200 a few years ago.

Hey hoosier... I and thank you enough for the tanks, we still need to get together on a dive. I did not even think of the Red Cross, I will make that call in the morning.

Thanks jbd I know my LDS had a CPR/FA class over the fall and it also had some other things wrapped in but I couldn't swing the 200 bucks nor did I have the time off work.

You guys think the aquatic center will care if I dive alone to work on skills and check some new gear?

Hoosier shoot me an email for the next dive trip, even better if you guys plan on a trip out my way.

:)
thanks guys

Any chance you might join us for dinner on the 9th of Dec??? Also some of us may be diving that day at Joe's. You are welcome to join us.

Thank you for the offer that pretty cool... I would love to BUT... I work every other weekend and that weekend I work. You think you guys will do it agn? How log till Joe closes his doors? Any time you guys get together please don't hesitate to ask me to tag along... I have no dive buddies so as it is I'm lucky if I get to dive 5-10 times a year and that makes it real hard to overcome skill problems. As it is I am going to try the Aquatic Center but Ill be solo so I am not sure if they will have a problem with that or not.

Thank you for the offer (I'm going to ask off or at least half day)
Who knows
Mike

Once we get past the holidays I may try to set up something at the the Meagher Aqutic ctr to work on some skills. Let me know what you work schedule is and maybe we can work something out. I have to work every third weekend so something should fall into to place with our schedules.
