I am considering heading over to Lauderdale in a couple of weeks and have read good things on this board about Pro Dive. I just had one question for anyone who has been diving with them before. Is it true that they require you to wear a pony bottle on every dive? I have one but wasn't planning on bringing it. Thanks for your help.

Oh yeah, one more thing.....has anyone ever been diving with Southeast Oceanic Services? I see they are in Dania Beach but wasn't sure how far off the path they were. Any help would be appreciated.

No pony bottle required. I can't imagine who started that rumor. They are a nice operation with a lot of DM's on board to help. You'll enjoy the dive sites they frequent. - nice wrecks

What kind of travel plan are you on? Dania is right inbetween Ft. Lauderdale and North Miami. You can hit most of the same sites from any of them. Pro Dive is top rate. I dive with them frequently. The shop is clean and bright. The staff is great. The boat is very nice. You can't go wrong.

I agree with Mempilot, they're a great operation. 60 foot boat with head and galley, lots of space for keeping stuff dry and a great crew. I did my IDC with them back in the early 90's and have been diving with them on a regular basis for years. I think you'll enjoy diving with them, and no they don't rerquire a pony bottle. Some folks choose to carry one and maybe someone that didn't know better thought that it was required.

I dove with them in December. There was no pony requirement.

They ran a good operation with a nice boat and a nice shop. I'd dive with them again.

The reason for the pony question is that Pro Dive's web site states that an alternate air source is required on all dives.

I would assume they mean an Octo..... but I could see how this could be taken as a second air supply.

Yep, that makes sense. They want you to have more than one reg. I don't think they'll let you dive solo either. When I have used them as a single, they usually pair me up with someone else or let one of the DM trainees dive with me.

Have fun!

If they know you at Pro Dive they'll let you go solo. The boat is usually filled with vacation and student divers during the week when I dive. That means that most of the people on the boat are divng air and tables so they usually let me go by myself. Of course there are plenty of other divers in the water with me, I just don't have an assigned buddy.
