I have a canon sd550. I just recieved my new WP-DC80 housing for it. I plan on taking it diving this weekend. I want to make sure it does not leak so I filled my sink with water, submerged the housing and pressed all of the buttons a couple of times. There were no leaks. My question is Should I take it down to 60'-70' without the camera in the ocean first? My only concern is that the increased pressure at depth may cause a small leak. I guess I am just paranoid becuase my new camera costs like $450.00 which is a lot of money to me. Is my sink test good enough?

Remember without your camera in the housing it will be postive bouyant, so add some weight to it I put some small weight bags in mind then I tied a line to it and drop it down to 30 feet. I left it at that depth for about 15 minutes and then pulled it up. Make sure you dry the housing off before you open it. If it don't show signs of moisture you'll be OK for the dive. Remember its dirty o rings that cause leaks such as hair. Good luck and have fun with your camera.

I always recommend doing a test dive w/o the camera in it. Prep the housing as you would...only instead of putting the camera in it, put some paper towels in it (make sure they arent between the seals). This way after the dive you can not only visibly inspect the housing for any sign of leakage, you can feel around the towels to see if moisture got in...INSURE YOUR CAMERA TOO!!
