Everyone has things that work for them. Below are the things that help me.

The cause of "problem" is usually liquid or body fluids blocking the eustation tube from allowing air passage.

Claritin drys up this liquid.

I was told by someone in PADI management that Navy divers snort salt water. I use a saline spray found in the grocery store.

The final item I use is a VERY SLOW decent and VERY SLOW ascent.

Works for me!

The only time a reverse block is really a big deal is for long dives. The meds last 4-6 hours. I usually go with 4 because most are take every 4 hours. If you take 30 minutes prior to diving, you should be good. Unless you plan on diving for over 4 hours. Plus the Claratin and Zyrtec last 24 hours. A reverse block is only a problem is you take the meds, grab something to eat, get a smoke, call home, take a while to get dressed, catch a boat, then go diving around the time it is wearing off. And Navy Divers don't snort salt water. They use a spray called Ayr. It helps keep the airways moist because of the dry air they breath through the nose from hardhat diving. It has nothing to do with equalization. Just a comfort thing.
