We will be flying back through GC on our way back from LC in a little over a week. Our flight arrives in GC at 11:35 am on saturday and our departure out of GC isn't until 4:41pm. We were thinking of checking our bags in for the United flight, then taking a cab from the airport over to the Georgetown Yacht Club for lunch. Any recent reviews from folks that have eaten there? Are we going to have to fight a huge crowd for lunch on saturday? Are we going to look out of place in tshirts and shorts? Is it going to be difficult to get a cab back to the airport from there? TIA

Hmmm long layover than ours. We simply ate the Hungry Horse in the airport while we waited for our 1:30pm flight. Last year we went to Georgetown and back but wasn't worth the $15 cab fare each way. I would check the cruise ship schedule to see if any will be in, that will give you a guide.

Cruise traffic isn't a concern, GTYC is at the Barcadere Marina - 1/2 mile north of the airport on the Sound.

I doubt it: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...330973.-2207520000.1377704484.&type=3&theater
The ground floor is host to our restaurant and bar, one that anyone can dock their boat right up to, offering a casual “back porch” dining experience,

I haven't eaten there but it's managed by the same people who run Cracked Conch and they have excellent food.

Yeah, we have eaten at the Hungry Horse the last few years when our layover was around 3 hours. But I am not looking forward to 5 hours in the chairs at the Hungry Horse or the airport terminal.

We did a 8hr wait for the jet to the Brac last year. Tried to kill some time in Georgetown but that is a loooong wait and put us off going back into town. Thought we were smart this year by taking the twin otter at 3pm but after some aircraft issues we landed in the Brac at 6:45, saved about an hour..sheesh.

While I think the Hungry Horse has improved dramatically over the last 2 years or so, the GTYC is now our pre-flight go to for food & drink.

The pizzas are surprisingly good as was the pasta, the fish & chips is close to MacaBuca's masterpiece, but not quit there (still really good) and the pulled pork is not too shabby.

Sundays (maybe Saturdays too) the place gets overrun by kids, due to the pool.

Pop down to the Mango Tree instead. It's closer & the food is better & way cheaper.

You can walk to the Barcadere from the airport, don't waste money on a cab! It's about half a mile and much closer than the Mango Tree. Good food, nice setting and you can kill some time with a wander around the marina checking out the boats.

Unfortunately, United managed to throw a wrinkle into the plans. Their counter agents don't show up until about 1:45pm. So we had nearly 2 hours from the time our flight landed in GCM before we could check our bags in with United. So we just went upstairs and sat at the Hungry Horse for a couple of hours before heading into the terminal. Then found out that the United incoming flight was delayed and wouldn't leave until 6pm. It was a long day...

Been there too. Our flight from Cancun was 6hrs late. However I kinda wished it was a bit later. It was the 4th of July but arrived back home to daylight. Can you see fireworks for the plane?
