Question about diving in San Diego

I will be down in San Diego over thanksgiving and I want to get some diving in. I have only ever been to La Jolla Cove. I want to try somewhere new. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Should have said I am looking for shore diving. I don't have all day to spend on a boat the days I can go dive.

Yeah, they seem to run on a half-day schedule.

If you show up at Kellogg Park just a couple minute drive north of the Cove, there is North and South Wall, or you could drop by the Marine Room restaurant to dive that area just a little south of what's commonly known as South Wall. They have casual dive events 2-3 times per week. Lots of shore dives at La Jolla Shores.

I recently got back from there.

The wall was sad. I had hoped there would be life. It looked as barren as the land near San Diego.

I wanted to defend my favorite local shore diving site just a little bit.

La Jolla Shores is usually best as a critter dive. You want to move slowly and look for the small stuff hiding in the cracks and debris. It also helps to go with a local or guide who's familiar with the animals that are commonly found at the site. I've also had more luck with it as a night dive. I have to agree that the shallows before you get to the canyon are usually dead boring. I always surface swim out and drop at the canyon edge where the good stuff is.
