This sexagenarian was a diver and was just about to leave on an expedition, at the time of the tragedy, which occurred around 7:50 a.m., in front of the Cap Cerbère diving club.

The victim was taken out of the water in cardiorespiratory arrest, before a witness provided the first cardiac massages . A third person also had the reflex to pick up the defibrillator kit at the town hall, in vain.


Firefighters continued resuscitation attempts , but the victim could not be brought back to life and was pronounced dead at the scene an hour later. A few days ago, an 80-year-old man also lost his life after drowning, off Lydia beach, in Barcarès.
