We have always wanted to go up the dirt road to Punta Moles in the NE part of the island. I know you are not suppose to take rentals up there. Any suggestions on how to get there, like UTV or buggy rentals? Thinking on maybe trying those electric bikes but don't see room for the beer cooler.

Heard that Adrian isn't doing this any longer but have left him a message. Probably too busy with his other business ventures. Will stop by his Harley shop in May and check if he still does the boat tours up north. For whatever reason my son wants to get there via land and keeps pushing to just go for it with scooters.

I did it about 8 years ago with some friends in a few of those Side-by-side ATV things. There is no way you would EVER get a scooter even a fraction of the way there. It was a handful even with the very capable 4x4 side-by-sides. It's not impossible by any means, but it's definitely a hazard, especially in a rental vehicle of any kind. There's at least one point where the road runs out onto the beach for some distance, and the sand there is soft and deep. Other sections have bare, sharp rock, and in others the inland marshes drain across the road and wash it out. There's also a military camp about halfway up that may or may not give you a problem passing through (probably not). Keep in mind that if you break your vehicle, it's a long, hot walk out too.

This photo is of an exceptionally easy portion of the trail:

Ya no way in heck we'd make it on scooters! I want to rent one of the side-by-side UTV's but haven't found where to rent w/o doing a tour thing. Thx for the info.

If you do, I would suggest renting two so you can pull each other out or have a ride back to civilization if necessary.

Ya for sure. There are 8 of us, that want to go & don't think the wives and daughters would not be happy with me if they have to push in the hot sun & sand:rant:.

Try this, each of you put up $125.00. Take the thousand dollars cash in hand and go talk to the guys who rent the razors for the tour. On Sunday there are no cruise ships for the tours. Charter a tour up north.

A thousand dollars?! You could charter a helicopter to cart you over there for that. $200 would get you four side-by-sides for the day and all the Sol you could drink on the way.
