hi everyone,Iwill be in punta cana domenican republic the week of may 10th.I will be staying at the iberostar bavaro.Does anyone have any advice for dive op or dive sites.thanks,

I did a few dives in Punta Cana. Not very good! I wasn't certified at that point and the dives were pretty lame. Dead coral and a couple fish!

Unfortunately this is true. The reefs were mostly dead with limited marine life. Ive been told that Catalina on the other side of the island is excellent though and is highly recommended. You should look into that while you are there.

I've heard the same about Catalina. Punta Cana is a great Vacation and I'd still go diving if I was there. Just don't expect anything spectacular!

A friend of mine dove off of Catalina last year and said it was very good. I dove off of Punta Cana a few years ago and it was not good. We dove off of Juan Dolio last year and it was better but not great. It was just good to get underwater.

I dove off of Punta Cana and have to agree it was not very good. We took a bus to Catalina, then a boat and did two dives. They were not bad. The viz was about 50 feet. There was a wall dive--about 30-70 feet. Unfortunately the people on the boat did not respect the reef and tore out large trumpet corals. Sad.

I'll be in Punta Cana the first week of July and plan to dive there as well as Catalina.

Any recommendations on a wetsuit? Thinking of bringing a long a 3mm but maybe all I need is a skin.
