Pull Dump on Wing

OK, for you guys who have/had pull dumps on your wings: was this something that was specific to that wing, or can you just unscrew the hose and valve from a BC and screw it onto the wing? The only one I've ever taken apart is on my BC; I don't know if it's a universal type connection, or are they all different? Thanks.

Depends on the mfgr. Seaquest, Scubapro. and Diverite are all different and not interchangable. The Diverite connections seem to be fairly standard and are compatible with many other wing mfgrs.

I started out diving with a SQ BC and got used to using the pull dump. It operated quite easily (too easily at times). When I went to a DR wing, it came with a pull dump and long corrugated hose (worked well with an Air2). It did not operate as easily (harder to pull). As my rig evolved, I ended up going with a simple elbow, a short corrugated hose, and a Scubapro balanced inflator. A pull dump is unnecessary.

I've used a pull dump valve and AirII clone (Tusa Duo Air) for the last 11yrs, and love the fact that I don't have to raise the power inflator to dump air from my BC, when I updated to BP/W, I got from DRexpress a pull dump and longer hose to attach my new SS1.
No problems at all in all these yrs and over 650 dives, you just need to inspect your gear when cleaning it and before using it after longer period of storage.

If you want it, get it, but maintain it regularly, just some silicon grease once in a while, clean the valve every time as you would do any other dump valve in your BC.

My DR RecWing has a pull dump. I actually like it, even though I don't use it very often. Some day I'll swap it for a regular elbow, but for now, inertia is keeping it in place. I just don't see it as that big of an issue. Also, I plan to pick up a dedicated singles wing (Mach V) and a real doubles wing at some point, so I don't feel much like spending time tinkering with this one when nothing's overly wrong with it. I may feel differently if I start doing wreck penetration, caves and deco, but I doubt I'll still be in this wing when I'm doing those dives, so again... eh. Whatever.

True, ScubaPro and the popular generic thru fittings are different. Most wings however use the common generic fitting, DSS, DR, Halcyon, OMS, etc.

Hard to beat customer service like that!

As for the OP; Stay away from a hose integrated pull dump. It's a failure point that you do not need.:shakehead

When I had a left shoulder corrugated hose integrated pull dump, I never used it, so now I don't miss it on my BP/W. I have heard that the pull dump can damage a wing where it connects to the wing. The dump mechanism has a slightly higher profile, can stick open (I have seen this several times), has more moving parts, and I do believe it is a real (not imagined) possible failure point.

If you get used to never using a shoulder pull dump, you will find that you do not need one. I like the simple elbow design on my wings. I do, however, like my bottom rear exhaust valve for venting air when I am head-down.

Your Air2 or Duo-Air will work fine on a non-pull dump corrugated hose. Just get the right length hose that works best for you.

The simpler your setup, the more reliable it will be, and the easier it will be to maintain.
