Hi. I'm a dive operator in Puerto Vallarta, so my opinion would be biased. I would, however like to invite you to come to Puerto Vallarta. Among our many diving attractions are Devil's Canyon at Los Arcos National Park, Marietas Islands, which is a protected biosphere reserve, Chimo, La Corbeteña, and many other dive sites.
Among the fish and other wildlife that we can see during our dives are Giant Mantas, Eagle Rays, Moray Eels, and dozens, maybe hundreds of tropical fish species, as well as Nudibranches, Octopi, and other mollusks.
The best time for diving Puerto Vallarta is during summer and fall, when the water is quite warm, up to 90F/32C, and viz is regularly 100ft+
Puerto Vallarta is also a beautiful city full of other activities, such as tropical jungle trips, and our night life is second to none (this is for when you're all finished with your dives, haha)
Hope to have you visit us...

I would say that Cabo diving and PV diving are pretty close, about the same vis (just ok), same fish life, not much for soft corals in either place. Cabo has diving close in to the town, the dive sites are 5 to 10 minute boat rides. When the sea lions are active it's awesome to dive with them. There are lots of eels, rays and tropicals in both places.
PV diving sites are 30 mins to Los Arcos, 1 hr 30mins to Las Marietas, and farther out to El Morro and that is just from Los Pienes pier.
My favourite out of all would be Cabo Pulmo which is 2 hours from Cabo but has huge fish and is very pretty.
Have fun.

I should add that PV is really pretty, very green and lush. Cabo is desert beauty.

I just got back from a Carnival cruise that I won in a drawing. We were susposed to dive PV and Cabo. The diving at PV was washed out due to weather, high winds for 3 days before we got there. The dive shop called it before we left the ship and we were able to plan something else. Class act in my book. The water was a murky mess when we got there.

The dive boat at Cabo was a joke. They took us out to Pelican rock to dive. There were at least 30 boats within 200 yds of us. The water was so rough because of the boat traffic that it tossed you against the dive boat. Michelle got rocked pretty bad and bailed. She just sat on the boat. The second dive they just pulled up the anchor and went around the rock and said were here, lets dive. After the second dive, the captain pulled up anchor and took off with people still trying to get out of their gear. 1 of the other divers had a bad air valve on a rental bc and had to abort his second dive half way in.

This dive operation is a waste of air. It only a matter of time till someone gets killed.

wow, what dive company did you use???

Underwater Derversions was the diving operation. They have the contract with Carnival Cruises.

They are a PADI 5 star operation. I have sent a email and a letter to PADI telling them of my concerns.

On the second dive of the day we were so close to another boat that the anchor lines crossed. I would give up diving before using them again.
