Alex,

I am booked at the Melia in PV for one week, March 30th - Apr 6th. (attending a wedding)

My son and I will be booking some dives with you while we are there!! I am a DM with 2000+ dives, my son has about 300 dives, and has done pretty well everything I have, just not as often!!

We're really looking forward to it, and anxious to get out and try to see some mantas, or perhaps whale sharks?

Can you indicate what water temps we might expect at that time of year?

Thanks!

Rick

Hi Rick,
Temperatures around that time should be in the mid 70s at the surface with thermoclines in the mid to low 60s. We use 7mm wet suits and hoods.

It's always possible to see giant mantas, yet whale sharks are rare in our area.

looking forward to diving with you then...

cheers

Alex from PVScuba

PS. By the way, our dive center is located within walking distance from the Melia, so it'll be most convenient for you.

After a busy holiday week on and after thanksgiving, we´re now in the calm before the storm. We´re expecting to be very busy again the second half of this month.

Today at Los Arcos and Majahuitas the low temp was at around 70F and viz 30-35 ft.

Weather in Puerto Vallarta is beautiful, the nicest of the year, so come visit us.

cheers

Alex from PVScuba

Conditions at Marietas for yesterday were: visibility 40 ft and low temperature 73F with no noticeable thermoclines. The viz was about the same at all depths we visited.

Last year at this time we had temps in the low 60s with low viz conditions near the surface, so we´re very glad we have milder conditions this year.

Come dive with us when you visit PV!

Happy holidays from Alex and the rest of the PVScuba staff.

PV,
I will be arriving in PV 2/18 on the Norwegian Star. I would like to dive while I am there. How far is dive shop from the cruise ship terminal? What can I expect to pay for a taxi?

Hi BXMARK,

Sorry to have taken so long to answer. For a faster response please conact us at info@pvscuba.com

Our dive center is actually a "stone throw" from where the cruise ships dock. The thing is that you need to drive around the marina to get to us. It´s about a 7-8 minute drive and the taxis charge around $8-10.

Looking forward to diving with you.

Alex from PVScuba

Conditions today at Majahuitas were: viz 30-35ft. low temp 75F/24C. Dove down to a max of 67ft and found no thermoclines.

Highlights for the day: saw spotted eagle rays, octopi, and a huge moray eel while diving. On the way to the dive site we came upon a large pod of bottlenose dolphins and on the way back to port we stopped to watch a few humpback whales whose path we crossed.

WHEW!! Just coming out of the busiest week of the year. Seem´s like everyone came to Puerto Vallarta for the new year´s celebrations.

Conditions continue to be mild for this time of year. Except for one day last week, the ocean has been very calm. Temperatures have been in the mid to low 70s, with occassional thermoclines in the upper 60´s.

Yesterday at El Morro we had viz at around 90 feet below depth 70ft. Above that the viz was around 30-40ft. Out and about where dozens of moray eels, which are more commonly in their dens or next to the walls.

Today our boat is back at Marietas, so look for the report later on.

Have a great year!!!

Alex from PVScuba

We had a really nice show put on by some humpback whales on the way back to port, so we hung around to see them breaching.

Greetings, Well, looks like we should have gone diving with PVScuba. Unfortunately we didn't. We took the advice of our local dive shop and contacted Vallartech A.K.A Twin Dolphins or Delfines Gemelos. I could go into great detail why this wasn't a good dive experience, but suffice it to say we definitely do not recommend them!!!!!. From the extremely poor equipment provided, to the boat breakdown, to the rude dive master.... (oh, I could go on and on). We did see some great puffer fish, some large rays, some small rays in the sand... some humpbacks on the way out. Vis was pretty poor at the depths we went (no more than 55 feet). Dive sites were merely ok (Los Arcos and Majahuitas). After diving in Kauai and Kona Hawaii as well as San Carlos Mexico, PV was honestly a bit disappointing. Best wishes on your dive experience!

Sorry to hear your dive experience was not all that great. While it´s true that Puerto Vallarta doesn´t offer dive conditions comparable to, say, the Caribbean, our dive sites do have a charm of their own. In my experience, divers that come expecting Caribbean or Red Sea-like conditions do go away disappointed, while those who come just for the fun and adventure of diving enjoy our dive sites a lot, even while they may have visited those world-class dive sites before.

So my advise to Puerto Vallarta diving visitors is to come with an open, inquisitive mind, and you´ll enjoy your diving here. Of course there´s no substitute for great, professional guiding service, so at PVScuba we´ll continue to offer it in the best way we know how.

Have a great year!!
