Just wondering if anyone has been diving in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria. I heard SeaVentures in Fajardo may be diving now. I heard diving in La Parguera has resumed. I was on the island just before Irma came through and thought about returning. It would help to have more current info. I appreciate any info that anyone can provide.

Thanks!

We dove with Culebra Divers this past June, and just got this from them:

"A warm Caribbean hello to everyone and thank you for your ongoing well wishes and patience as Culebra continues its recovery efforts. Here is the latest so you can plan your next visit.

Culebra Divers has the ability to run dive tours and will start doing so December 1st. We want to thank Unidos por Puerto Rico for supplying Culebra Divers and other local businesses with generators which will help us better serve you!

Here's an update on where the we stand:

The island is currently still waiting to receive permanent power from mainland PR. During this time, we are experiencing intermittent power and water which is expected to continue into the new year. Power currently comes on from 6:30pm-6:30am each night with relative reliability. Water has no official schedule but appears to follow a similar plan for most locations. This means that during the day, many locations will not have running water, or will have diminishing water pressure if they are above street level, until the power comes back on. While some guesthouses have their own cisterns and generators, you should check with your lodging provider to verify their status so you know what to expect. Keep in mind that most restaurants are also at the mercy of the intermittent utilities so they are on modified hours or may be closed. However, our grocery stores continue to maintain a good stock of food. Cellular usage is limited to AT&T in certain areas of the island with little to no data. In summary, if you are an adventurer who loves diving and camping, you'll adapt just fine!

Note: As an added bonus, Puerto Rico has waived sales tax through December 31st! You will still need to bring plenty of cash as most businesses are unable to accept credit cards yet.

Getting here:

The ferry system is running but with more delays than usual due to communication issues. Air Flamenco and Cape Air have gone on a hiatus and we do not expect them to be flying. However, there are plenty of other airlines to choose from such as Aero Taxi, Air Margarita, Air America, and Seaborne.

If your travel plans included a day trip over to Culebra, email us today and we'll get you on the schedule. You can also book on our website as usual. If you were hoping to book multiple days here, stay in touch with your airlines and housing to make sure they can accept and maintain reservations. We have many guesthouses on our website to choose from that may be able to help you. We strongly encourage you to watch the PR Tourism website for updates on flights, hotels, and other travel information. Many of the guesthouses and tour operators here are extremely excited about getting visitors back and are working on a case by case basis for taking new reservations.

We are excited to say YES, it is absolutely possible to visit Culebra to enjoy some great diving, and to rest and relax as you always have. For those of you who have visited us before, you'll be able to compare pre- and post-hurricane landscapes which for many is a once in a lifetime experience. We hope you will keep Puerto Rico and Culebra on your travel plans as we move into the New Year.

We look forward to seeing you again real soon! Happy Diving."
