Hi.
I'm a diver and my wife (we're middle age) and another couple (they're retired) are snorkelers. We plan to fly to San Juan for a cruise (Carnival Destiny), sailing out Sun. Aug. 26/07. Another family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids) are thinking of joining us. I'm making the arrangements. Because we'll have luggage, we shouldn't stay at too many different places.
I'm thinking to have us fly to San Juan Mon. Aug. 20 (the earliest we can get there). Probably stay in SJ one day and tour OSJ the next day. I'm learning about the diving, snorkeling, and bio bays in Puerto Rico.
I'd like to go to the bio bay at least once, and diving the south wall near La Paquera. The Desecheo island diving sounds good, but don't know if scheduling will permit. I hear the bio bay at Vieques Island is the best, but would need to stay there one night. If we go there, probably should stay 2 nights.
Here's some thoughts on our travel. Would like to hear your thoughts and suggestions:
Mon. Aug. 20, fly into San Juan (gets there late), stay in a SJ hotel
Tue. Aug. 21, tour OSJ, then get to Farjado and ferry to Vieques Island.
Wed. Aug. 22 on Vieques Island go diving/snorkeling in morning; (any recommendation on dive/snorkel shop?); beach in afternoon; night go to bio bay; Can you dive in the bio bay or is it just boat/kayak trip? Which are good shops?
Thr. Aug. 23 morning ferry to Farjado, rent van, drive through El Yunque, then onto south PR. La Paquera (or Guanica?)
do bio bay either that night or Fri. night?
Fri. Aug. 24 dive the south walls; others to snorkel or fishing; Paquera Diver or Paradise Diver? night go to the bio bay there (I hear it's not as good, but since we're there..)
Sat. Aug. 25
If going diving at Desecheo island, it sounds like Sat. Aug. 25. is the possible date. We'd either go stay in west PR, or I need to get up early and drive to the dive op for that morning. What shops go to Desecheo island then, and what time?
It might be easier for everyone if we still stay at La Paquera on Fri. and Sat. night. And if I like to dive Desecheo then it's only me driving on Sat.
Sun. Aug. 26 drive to San Juan, return van, and get on cruise ship.

How is diving/snorkeling on Vieques Island, compared to La Paquera area? If it's not really good, maybe we can stay on Vieques only 1 night and get to La Paquera 1 day early. Then stay at west Puerto Rico, for a sure trip to Desecheo.
How is diving at Desecheo compared to La Paquera? Is it really worth the trouble for a Desecheo dive trip, vs diving at La Paquera?
