My wife and I are will be in San Juan the first week of April (4-10). She doesn't dive (but wants to snorkel) and I haven't been wet for nearly 8 years. Looking for reliable information on what we can expect for conditions and where to go.

Thanks,
Jeff

I do hope you plan a refresher before you go. There is little shore diving unless you go to the west side of the island. Rincon. East there are some nice easy dives from boats but it depends on the weather and how much run off they get. Fajardo is where many ops take newer divers but I would not think it good for snorkeling unless she is comfortable free diving to see anything. Palmas was great on the sotheast but with depths in the 60-80 foot range where we were again not much snorkeling to do. Call Christine at Palmas Dive Center Scuba Diving Puerto Rico's Caribbean with Sea Ventures Dive Centers- Fajardo, & Humacao, Puerto Rico We used her for both trips and were very satisfied and at the same time she will give you the honest skinny on diving in PR even if you don;t use her boats. I would ask her for info on Rincon diving if that's where you want to go and trust her advice. If you just want to go to the west side of the island puerto rico tech divers (don't have the website handy) is good and they would have arranged for us to do all shore diving if we wanted but that side of the island in January when we were there is famous for having great surfing. Not something I wanted to do with a new OW student and the weather sucked anyway. A boat was easier on everyone.

On the west and north west side Aguadella and Isabella have good shore diving and snorkeling There is crash boat, and shacks beach to just name a couple. Google Crash boat and you will see the pier there and it is loaded with fish. There is also a guy there that can take you out diving West Paradise water sports. Have fun im going back down in march cant get enough of paradise.

The west end of the Island is BEAUTIFUL, long taxi ride, but worth a day or two on that side.
