I will be staying near Puerto Morelos mid July and found 2 dive ops there, Dive In Puerto Morelos and Wet Set. Anybody have experience with these folks? Thanks for any input.

I am watching as well if you don't mind me jumping in - I am going there for 10 days in August

Not at all. I'm staying at an all-inclusive called Azul Sensatori but I don't believe they have a dive opertion. Hopefully it will be easy to get to either of the two I mentioned - or another if someone has some info.

I dove down there 2 years ago. There is a guy in Puerto Morales named Enrique. Rob is one of his divemasters. Enrique owns a shop but i can't remember the name. He also runs a shop out of Ceiba del Mar. Super high end resort close by. You may be able to contact them and they could point you in his direction. If they use him you know he gives good service, etc. The Ceiba del Mar Spa Resort - A Riviera Maya Luxury Hotel

I've sent several other friends to him since and all have had a great time. Enjoy!

Be sure to hit the cenotes while you're there! You should also consider jumping the express boat from Playa del carmen (15 min drive) to cozumel for a day. Worth it.

Shrimp tacos at the Taco Stands. You're bringing back the memories now...

I just looked up Dive In Puerto Morelos. I've met Brett the owner. He's a cool guy. My brother-in-law dove with him for a week and had a great time. They also can set up cenote dives for you. We originally intended to dive with Brett but couldn't and found Enrique. Either way, you'll have a great time! Enjoy

I'm also heading down in July, renting a villa with friends, so thanks for the suggestions.

One question about the cenote dives...I'm claustrophobic. How big are these caves? Any danger of feeling overly confined?

Thanks!

have sent several emails with no responses to Dive In PM - was hoping to get some more shop info.

The cenotes are large for the most part. I would not suggest you going into the cenotes with less than 24 dives. The most important part of cavern diving is to have very good buoyancy control. Also, I would advise to also get a cavern course. PADI has them now. Do the book work with a shop and do the dives with a certified cave guide.

Cenotes are an other world experience. My best dive experience I've had to this point.

Dive safe!

LOVE LOVE LOVE the shipwreck at Puerto Morelos!!!! Its 90 ft to the bottom, large wreck with easy pre-lined penetration, we saw sharks, eagle rays, lobsters, and lots of other life! A definite MUST. Unfortunately other than the wreck P.Morelos doesn't offer a whole lot more. There are a lot of really shallow dives which are very healthy and full of life but at max 15ft you can pretty much snorkel it just as easily. Great beaches though and some very good eats.

I dove the Dos Ojos cenote last November and it was my first dive after getting my open water certification at the local man made community lake and didn't have any problems or concerns. You do need good buoyancy control but other than that there are no real issues as long as you are comfortable with with no direct access to the surface at all times. There is a dive operator just north of the Hidden Worlds entrance that is less expensive and the service was very good. The instructor was very experienced and safety oriented and took good care of us. Unfortunately I don't recall the name of the dive op.

You are following the line and there will likely be lots of other divers along the route but there are some tight spots which is why you need good buoyancy control. Not being claustrophobic I don't know if it would be a problem.

There may be other cenotes that are more open but it is an experience that you don't want to miss if you can manage it. The visibility is amazing.
