Going down to Puerto Morelos in Aug (wishing for good weather). Anyone else going there or know what to see and do in the small town?

Is it worth taking a taxi to Playa de Carmen or up to Cancun?

What dive ops are around there that you have dove with?

I have always thought that PM had a weird vibe to it. The town seems stuck in the 70's. Last time we were there was pre Wilma so everything has changed since then.

The taxi ride to PDC is definitely in order. The cab stand in PM is on the north side of the main square. Be sure to set a price before the ride. I would love to give you a price range, but it has been a couple of years and I have no idea how much it should cost. Have them drop you off at either Constityuentes and 5th or at the main bus station (pretty much the north and south end of the tourist zone).

Driftwood,

Contact Ben Mooney at Scorpio divers. We did a couple dives with him at PM in March and had a great time. He will know all the dirt on PM and I am sure can give you great advice.

His website is Scorpio Divers www.scorpiodivers.com or PM him here on scubaboard http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/members/ben@scorpiodivers.com.html
Make sure he takes you for the fish and shrimp tacos in Puerto Morelos. They are the best I have ever had.

I cannot recall if the bus stops there, but the public transportation is clean and cool with storage for luggage and movies.

The bus (ADO) stops on the highway at PM en route from Cancun to Playa. There is a mini station there that sells tickets. If you ask a taxi to take you to the ADO he should be able to help you. The bus fare to Playa is only 50 pesos more or less. The return buses run late so you can spend the whole day in Playa if you want.

I wouldn't suggest it if you going diving but for a day trip it would be fine. It's one of those things you need to do once so you see how easy it is and you get comfortable with it.

I was there in May and dove with WetSet right in Puerto Morelos, try dinner at John Gray's pricey but awesome fine dining. Wound up being just me and the and the Divemaster shuttled around by the boat captain. No one else had booked and they still took me out. Visibility was a little churned up from previous days of high winds but I did get to dive the C-56 wreck. Beah is also spectacular in Puerto Morelos because of the Barrier reef, calm surf beautiful water, nice sand. Family hung out on the beach while I dove.

Sounds like we might have been there around the same time. We went the first week in May and was told the pier was closed because of high winds a few days before. Where is this John Gray's? Any website or location info?

Only two more weeks and I'll be diving with Paul. Can't wait. It's been several years since I've dove Mexico. This will be my first time in Puerto Morelos and with Paul.
