Our team is an in-house Sheriff's Dept team with all full time Deputies. We do welcome full time Firemen and Police from outside agencies.

Some of the surrounding agencies are switching from volunteer teams to in-house teams. Much easier to manage and rely on. It’s hard to have a Rescue Team with volunteers even though they call themselves Rescue where in reality they are Recovery Teams. It’s tough to try and run to a rescue call in a POV over a patrol car.

Wildbill,

Thank you for your response, Upon recent research it looks that you are correct, our county and towns have their own dive teams within he fire and law enforcement departments!

Gregg,

Congrats on your service and thanks for what you did/do.

Here in Central VA, the PSD teams tend to be either part of the Local FD or LEOS, but there are a few counties that don't have paid personnel and some have a team that is made up of the vol rescue squad or fd or both. For those that don't have the resources, our State Police has a team that goes across the state.

There is a vol rescue squad that created a team in the past year, and have been accepted by the career FD to come on their calls and support them because of the training they've been able to gain.

Good luck in your searches.

RJ
