I've often heard that I'm pretty dense ;)

Seriously, I'm surprised that you know of very few people that submerge with 10% ... nearly all the folks we train, unless they are significantly overweight, end up diving with weight = 10% of body weight, sometimes with an additional 2 to 4 lbs after a bouyancy check, and all of them are wearing 7 mil wetsuits.

I don't regard myself as being exceptionally fit ... pretty average actually ... I dive with 14 lbs when I use my Steel 80 and 20 pounds when I use an AL 80.

Interesting!, that would describe me pretty well also. I weigh 170, dive in a full 7mm Bare+7mmshorty and a steel 80, and still go down with 20lbs. I did a test in the pool and found out that I need 6.5 lbs just to sink the 7mm shorty. :crafty:
