Hello all,

Just a question regarding ears/equalizing. Last time i went diving i was sick (but desperate for a dive, i'm only human!) so i knew i'd have some equalization issues, but it went fine on first dive, then for second dive after 25 minutes my left ear got sore, even thou i was equalizing (first swalling which is normal method and works no worries, but then blowing out, harder than usual). Anyway, I was at low depths (7-12m=22-38ft) and continued on throughout. No bursts or anything dramatic and completed the dive fine.

I just got back from some camping, was in fresh water and just swimming. In the middle of a section of a dam a few ppl had a race to the bottom (approx 4m=12-13ft) and at the bottom i had the same pain in my left ear.

I surfaced, and went down again but equalized on the way down, the pain wasn't as intense, and I still had partially blocked sinuses, but was concerned at not being able to release the pressure easily (still!). I surfaced, and tried to equalize and had to blow pretty hard and finally forced some air into the left eardrum cavity, but had a wheezing sound (as thou estuchan tubes were blocked?).

I'm hoping that on my last dive i haven't done some semi-perm damage by diving on during the soreness, or am I able to just write this off as blocked sinuses and (carefully) try a bit harder on blowing out to equalizing if airways are blocked.

Thanks

Parheric,
I would say to talk to your primary helathcare provider and have him/her give your ear the once over. While it sounds like just congestion in your Eustachian Tube, it could be more. Just my $0.02. :)
