All hand signals suffer from sloppy users. Just as sloppy speaking or writing can be confusing.And that's fine if you can keep all your fingers together! With some of my buddies it's either a sloppy zero or a sloppy "I'm OK are you OK?"
Perhaps, but the point is that the closed fist is LESS prone to being made sloppily than the "O" signal, and isn't clearer less confusing communication the goal?
Really?! You realize that besides myself there are a few other divers on this thread who signal only the first two numbers of gas remaining. In some cases that system depends on context. For example, my buddy signals 2 then 1. Does he mean 2100 psi or 210 psi? Which is it? Well, without grilling your partner the gas remaining can be determined by context. If it's at the beginning of the dive it's 2100 psi. If it's at the end of the dive it's 210 psi.You really don't want your hand signals to have to depend on the context, .....
